War: What is it Good For?

Remember last summer when I posted about how my boys and the neighbor kids play War in our front yard?  See here for a re-cap.

Saturday afternoon there was a game of War happening when suddenly Landon and I hear (from just inside the house), "Hey you kids!" in a rather aggressive tone.  We both looked outside just as 6 policemen in flak jackets and helmets, wielding machine guns were walking, no---sneaking, past our house.  They were telling the kids, "All of you get inside immediately!"  Landon and I sprinted outside and gathered all of the kids into our house and led them to the basement, not having a clue what was happening.  I consoled, reassured, and fed cookies to the kids while they simultaneously cried, shook, laughed, and said, "That was awesome".  Landon peeked outside to watch where the cops were headed.  They apparently surrounded the house at the end of our street (about 6 houses south of ours) and arrested two people.  It was all over fairly quick and a cop told Landon it was safe to come out.  The cops wouldn't say why they were arrested because of "pending investigations."

Ethan at first thought they were in trouble when the cops were yelling at them.

Henry may or may not have thought the cops were there to play War with them.

Landon told the boys that they weren't very successful War players if an entire armed contingent could sneak up on them unawares.

Do we live in the ghetto, or what?

This is like, my dream, you know. I so wish I was there. I would LOVE if it were one of my neighbors (because I sort of really think I'm in a secret audition for the CIA- it'll come out soon enough, just wait). This is right up my alley!
I bet those war playing boys had the time of their lives seeing that! (well only for some, sounds like)

ps- have you read any news lately that could help you find out what happened?

I love Chelsea Horsley. This sounds more up the nightmare lane to me. I'm just glad we can live in the ghetto together.

Love the Seinfeld reference on this one.

Didn't that happen about 10 years ago with some kind of drug bust. Not your street, but still in the neighborhood?
