I Love to Wander in the Mountains

Last night we went up Millcreek Canyon to cook our dinner and get really smelly and dirty. Landon says our kids don't sit in the dirt enough. They're "city-fied."

At the beginning of the summer, Landon and I had promised ourselves that we would be more spontaneous (we're not spontaneous folks) and go into the mountains a lot to hike or eat dinner.

We hadn't done it once yet this summer. So with a week left to go before school starts, we grabbed some hot dogs, buns, corn-on-the-cob, chopped up some fruit and a half hour later we were building a fire.

This is pretty much how our evening went: Henry and Ethan throwing every piece of paper, sticks, and trash in the fire. Oddly enough, Landon says that's what happens 75% of the time spent at scout camp.

Notice the teensy marshmallows. I didn't have big ones and I was not going to the store just for mallows. Our Nutella s'mores still tasted delicious.

Here's what I've learned: bring gloves to unwrap the corn-on-the-cob, bring chairs so you don't get sap on your bum, throw away the beginning-of-summer-list and just let it happen organically. A lot less guilt that way.

What great memories your kids will have. I love being in the mountains and I think it's because of all the time we spent in the canyon during summers in Logan.
