We went to an air show at Hill AFB on May 26.
This is quite possibly the most perfect activity for my husband and my 8-year-old son.
A little background: Landon can identify most military aircraft just by the shadow it casts. Ethan watches the Military Channel each morning when he wakes up.
As we walked through the gates, Ethan's first words were, "Look, Dad, it's the C-5 Galaxy!"
This giant cargo plane is the C-5 Galaxy, for those of you unversed in military aircraft identification.
It can hold 8 Black Hawk helicopters (obviously).
Can you see me and the boys standing by the ramp?
Driving a helicopter
Go Aggies!
Ethan informed me that he's holding an RPG.
That means a Rocket Propelled Grenade. Obviously.
Explosive Disposal team's armored Hummer.
A bullet-proof turret. Sweet.
Inside the Jolly Green Giant helicopter.
In the cockpit of a T-4. (T means Trainer jet. Did you know that? A- means Attack. F- means Fighter. C- means Cargo.)
This is Ethan asking the pilot how many hours he has flying this particular jet.
In the BlackHawk helicopter.
On the rescue carrier on the BlackHawk.
And then it started to rain: sideways, freezing deluge. We were outside for about 2 hours walking and waiting for the shuttle back to our car in freezing cold rain. We were grossly underdressed. Those thin little Lands' End rain jackets kept my boys remarkably dry, though.
We came home and put sweats and slippers on and drank hot chocolate in front of good movie.
We only got to see a few jets and a few prop planes fly in the air show before the rain started. Disappointing for all of us because it truly was a fun time.
Soggy and cold on the shuttle but still in good spirits.
