Dinner Among Friends

Last night we invited some people over for dinner that I've been wanting to invite for years. First off: Grant and Joni--remember them?--we've been out to dinner with them countless times, but have never had them over.  And secondly, we invited a couple in our ward, Ralph and Mary (no last names to protect the innocent), that I've been wanting to get to know better.

It was a lovely, delightful evening with no pictures to prove it.  I served Tortellini Soup and Italian Wedding Soup (in cool Mexican bowls courtesy of my friend Jenni) and Roasted Red Onion/Pear/Goat cheese Salad.  Joni brought bread; Mary brought apple crisp for dessert.

I love having people over for dinner.  I used to stress that my house was too small, too cluttered, not pretty enough; or that I don't have lovely dishes or place settings.  Then I just said "forget it" because I like socializing too much.  I'm not a dazzling hostess in any sense of the word, but I love to please people with food, and I hope to make them feel at home.  If guests stay longer than I had anticipated, I consider that a compliment.

I feel like we've added 2 new friends to our lives; dear, smart, funny, classy, cherished friends.

I so need to take a page out of your book and start hosting more often. Such a great way to get to know people. You are a fabulous host just because you're so delightful and put everyone at ease. Glad it was a lovely evening.
