Need a bigger nightstand

This is the stack of books on my nightstand. Some I've read just recently, some I haven't gotten to, some have been there for months and I can't seem to finish, others are there for continual reference. Like Peter and the Popes. I borrowed this book from my Dad over a year ago because I had just read Pope Joan and was fascinated by the possibility of a female pope and just the culture of the papal office. Perhaps I ought to return it soon.

I'm stuck on The Silence of God. This is historical fiction about the first LDS family in Russia just on the cusp of the Bolshevik Revolution. I borrowed this from my sister, Jodi, months ago, but something about it keeps me from finishing it. It's not particularly compelling. Perhaps I ought to give up and return it.

My parents gave me What the Scriptures Teach Us about Raising a Child and I keep it on my nightstand to refer to it often. Not as often as I should, by the way.

I was in Frost's Books recently and need something quick so I bought 3 of Sarah Addison Allen's books: Garden Spells, The Girl Who Chased the Moon, and The Sugar Queen. They are great, quick, magical, romantic reads and I really enjoyed all of them. There is some magic in the books that requires suspending belief a bit, but I loved them anyway. I'm usually turned off by fantasy or magic books, but these were real enough that it didn't bother me. With that endorsement I must warn that there are 1 or 2 racy scenes in each book that might offend the sensibilities in some. I, however, loved them! A little bit of randy-ness is enjoyable!

Sweet Misfortune: a nice, clean, modern romance that wasn't bad. I'll give this book away, though. It's not one I'll shelve to read again. Any takers?

The Long Way Home: average story, average writing, not a complete waste of time. Any takers?

Of Pigs, Pearls and Prodigals: A gift from my parents for Mother's Day about the parables of Jesus. Really looking forward to reading this, especially since we're studying the New Testament in Sunday School.

All Other Nights: Historical fiction about Jews during the Civil War. Only a couple of chapters in and I'm not sure I'm in love. Let's put it this way: if the library due date comes before I've finished it, I probably won't renew.

The Dog of the South: This is written by the same guy that wrote True Grit. Landon just read that and another of his novels and really liked his writing. It's a library book; we'll see if I get to it.

The Wheel on the School: we read this in my book group several years ago and I loved it!!! I bought my own copy to read to the boys; we're only about 2 chapters in. Written by a Dutch author, this won a Newbery in 1955.

The Nazi Officer's Wife: in keeping with my predilection for World War II novels, another historical fiction waiting patiently for me.

The Forgotten Garden: I have a feeling that I'm going to love this book, yet I can't give a good reason why. It just looks like my type of book. I'm waiting to start this because I might be sad once it's over. Anticipation is so sweet.

The Girl with No Shadow: by the author of Chocolat, which I liked, and Five Quarters of the Orange, which I loved; this one landing somewhere in between. Lovely novel set in Montmartre, with a little bit of magic thrown in (again with the magic?), I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Anyone want to borrow it?

The Happiness Project: just started this on the recommendation of my friend Michelle Marsh. It feels like it's going to be along the lines of A Million Miles in a Thousand Years which I'm somewhat evangelical about.

What do non-readers use nightstands for?

(By the way, how do I underline text? I know it's proper to underline book titles, but I can't figure out how to do it.)

Your nightstand looks like mine. Mike finally got me a basket to put all of my books in so that my nightstand doesn't look so messy. Wait until you see my post in a few weeks about the entire wall of bookshelves we just had installed. I just started reading The Forgotten Garden on STRONG recommendation from my sister and I love it so far.

My nightstand is exactly the same, but throw some knnitting on there as well.

Our bed has a bookshelf as well, so it's full of books too.

I have Happiness Project and Forgotten Garden, both in my queue. Summer maybe. I love having books in the wings.

You can underline when you are in compose mode there's a u with a line under it...highlight the word and then click on it.
