Well Played, Amy

I play the organ in our church almost every Sunday. And I don't know how to play the organ. What I mean is, I play the keyboard like a piano and don't touch any stops (that's what the buttons are called; just learned that). And then I hope for the best.

During the sacrament hymn (the most reverent hymn of the service) my finger accidently hit a pre-set button and all the stops changed immediately mid-verse. Suddenly: TRUMPETS. Did you know there was a stop that actually has the word "TRUMPET" on it? I didn't either.

So there we were singing "Once upon the cross He bowed" and trumpets were blaring, volume was increased. It was humiliating. I was giggling and sweating and wondering how to get us back to a reverent sound. I didn't miss a note and just kept playing until the end of the verse, then I flipped the Trumpet switch off and hit a couple of stops hoping to change the mood.

Landon informed me later that the congregation just stopped singing and looked a little dazed. Ethan sat up off the floor and said, "Why is the organ making that noise?" Indeed. My only condolence is that I was among friends who know I don't know what I'm doing. Please forgive.

I'm just sad it wasn't the button marked "BELLS". That would've been something.

That darn organ. I might have passed right out on the ground if it was me. Wish I would have been there to support. Xo

I'm floundering between laughing my head off and crying for you. Who doesn't need a little change from the ordinary in sacrament meeting from time to time? Love you, girl!

That is hilarious!!!! You obviously did not inherit the organ playing gene from grandma. What a trooper you are to do that in your ward every sunday.
